Night Tales
Terrace and Nightclub
£16.90
Night Tales is East London’s largest outdoor terrace bar – complete with nightclub. Based in Hackney, you follow a weird little alley into a dark door and you’re there. We decided to continue the fun after Maiden Voyage at Night Tales – a good decision as this place has the ability to be both relatively intense and pretty chilled, depending what mood you’re in.

On arriving we were greeted by some really friendly bouncers who asked us how the festival had been, laughed when we told them we had to pay for a plastic cup, and even letting us keep our waters (what a treat!). We arrived around
11:30 and there will still tickets on the door – our friends who arrived around an hour later, however, had a decent queue and I imagine by that point it was sold out. Walking into the outdoor terrace I was pleasantly surprised – after a pretty full-on day, the lowly-lit, comfortable and almost kinda plush drinking terrace was very welcome. You can only smoke at the back of the outdoor space, which has considerably less comfy benches, but is still very nice all the same.
There was a bar outside as well as a bar inside the main ‘club’ area – essentially just one, medium sized, cavernous black room with lights. This was fun, to begin with, but soon became unbearably hot, like really REALLY hot, and very busy. At around 1am you were having to queue to go into the club area – a bit of a shit thing to be honest, considering you’ve paid to be at a club and already probably had to queue outside to get in. They had obviously just oversold on tickets, and whilst it didn’t feel too busy outside, there was no possible way even half of the people there would have been able to dance at the same time, if they so wished to. This left me feeling like I had sort of paid £17 to sit in a nice smoking area...
Music was overall good, staff were nice, overall a decent end to a great day – did I mention how nice the terrace is? Toilets were never too gross and queues never too dragging, bar wait times were absolutely fine, which means logistically everything but the dancing area was sorted. Will I be back? Almost definitely but next time I’ll take this more as a nice outdoor drinking spot than place to dance the night away.
