Battersea Boot Sale

Harris Academy, Battersea Park Rd, SW11 5AP 1:30pm – 5:00pm

50p entrance

Established in 1999, Battersea Boot is the original Sunday afternoon car-boot sale in London. Always busy and well organised, Battersea Boot is not just a one time wonder, but a gift which keeps on giving. One of the best things about it is that it doesn’t open to the public until 1:30pm – meaning you can still have that essential Sunday lie in without missing out on all the good stuff!

There is a real mix of goods on offer here, usual bric a brac and collectables are aplenty, however, secondhand clothes seem to be the main event. Designer goods, vintage and shabby chic feature alongside antique kitchenware and travelling chess sets. On the surface it may not seem like much, but if you are a keen bargain hunter and have a dig around you will be sure to find something! Whilst they have some regular traders, the majority of stall’s are newcomers: people trying to shift some old clothes a couple of times a year which keeps the line up and contents fresh.

Before this Sunday, I last went to Battersea boot around 7 years ago and got a couple of nice tops and a vintage black blazer, all but one of these items I still have (and wear!) This Sunday I managed a couple of tops again, but the real bargain were a pair of Lee denim jeans for £1, a complete bargain seeing as you see them being sold on sites such as Depop for £20-40. In fact, even if you don’t find items for yourself at Battersea Boot, it would be a great place to come and purchase one off items, to then sell on at a profit.

Whilst some may insist that the earlier you get to these things the better, but I wouldn’t suggest any more than an hour or two here to look around. Whilst the early shift may bag you the best goods, the late shift will most definitely bag you the best prices, with some sellers claiming to take anything you're offering from around 3:30pm. We got here just after 3 and were out just before 4pm, so prime time for prices to start diminishing. Overall, it was a fun, unique and rewarding way to spend a Sunday afternoon and I would recommend it to anyone interested in a good bargain.
