Born in Bologna, Radio Alice gets its name from the Italian pirate radio station. Founded by brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe, along with their friend Emma King, Radio Alice is based on popular Italian pizzeria, Berbere. Fusing organic stoneground flour with a mother yeast sourdough, Radio Alice aims to provide delicious pizza that is delicious and crisp all over. Topping the dough are ingredients sourced from small-scale Italian suppliers, helping to keep the authenticity to a genuine Italian experience, here in the big smoke.
One day a small yellow piece of paper appeared on my doormat. The yellow piece of paper offered you a free pizza once you had bought another. I popped it in my bag one evening when I was going to meet some friends for happy hour drinks at Venn Street Records (the best cocktail in Clapham - in my opinion), just incase we felt peckish later on, as Radio Alice is directly opposite. Funnily enough, we got peckish...
There were three of us and we shared two pizzas and a Burrata £5.9 to start. Pizza's range from £5 to £12 - we went for the N'duja £11 and Butternut squash £10. I also sampled a 'Sassy Spritz' off of the cocktail menu, for £6. The pizza dough was not to my usual taste (I like a thin base), but tasted good and was crisp all the way down - no sogginess over here! The toppings, however, were disappointing. What sounded promising ended up being quite flavourless and bland. I wasn't even really sure where the sausage was on the N'duja and the Butternut squash seemingly was lacking the other toppings of porcini mushrooms and black garlic.
Overall, Radio Alice is an OK pizza... They make themselves sounds good with organic produce and authentic Italian chat, however, the pizza here is too thick for my liking, and far too flavourless. Pizza is pretty difficult not to get right, and unfortunately, Radio Alice doesn't quite hit the spot.
