Maltby Street Market

Street food has taken London by storm in the past few years, places like the Southbank food Market and Camden Kerb have helped to make it a foodie paradise, rather than a just quick burger in a bun to satisfy your hunger.
Maltby Street market opened in 2010 and is located along Ropewalk in Bermondsey. Bermondsey, as an area itself, was new to me, and I was very pleasantly surprised. The surroundings of Ropewalk are mixed: there are some big, industrial looking buildings, next to some new flats and small, upmarket eateries. The sun was shining and every single café I walked past from London bridge to here looked absolutely lovely.
Running every Saturday between 9am-4pm and every Sunday from 11am-4pm Maltby Street market is colourful, fun and friendly. The street food vendors range from African inspired burgers to olive oil stands, falafel wraps to fried chicken. There really is something to tickle everyone's tastebuds. When we arrived at around 3pm on the Sunday, the place was absolutely packed, however we still managed to nab a table.
The stall we chose was called The Toucan: Tom got a steak, chorizo and cheese wrap (£8), whilst I went for the steak burrito (£8). Both has a generous portion of filling in and the chaps who owned the stall were absolutely lovely. Tom ordered extra halloumi for his (£1) and when he discovered that this hadn't been put in his wrap the vendors offered to make him a whole new one, free of charge. Of course he declined, asking if he could simply have some halloumi, which we got a whole cone full of, as well as a free Peroni.
Maltby Street market is the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, the food may be a touch on the pricey side given what it is (The Cheese Truck sells a toastie for £6... er, what?) but it is a pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
