Swinger's Crazy Golf

8 Brown's Buildings, London EC3A 8AL 18 OCTOBER 2016

£10-£13

I went to Swingers Crazy Golf as the final stop on a work away day. The location is very central, right next to Liverpool Street and the Gherkin meaning it's easily accessible (but also means it has quite a lot of suits inside). The venue is huge - 16,000 square ft to be exact and is decorated to fashion to English Countryside (lots of astroturf). It has two 9 hole golf courses to choose from, five bars, three street food vendors and a two storey clubhouse - complete with gin terrace.

The brains behind the venue believe that socialising is enhanced with an element of competition. It's great for laid back fun with friends, or a relaxed date environment, waiters even rotate the pitch and bring you drinks onto the course as you play. I wouldn't be able to tell you these drinks prices exactly but I'd imagine they are pretty pricey due to both the location and popularity of the venue.

The price of £10 or £13 (peak) for the actual ticket onto the golf course is fairly reasonable in my opinion. The total time to complete the golf course is no longer than half an hour so you may feel yourself wanting a bit more once it has ended, but this isn't to worry as once in you can enjoy the food, drink and DJ's for the rest of the night. One complaint I would have is that is was very VERY busy, meaning you had to wait a while in between holes for another team to finish before you could move on. This also meant that if a team was waiting behind you for a go you began to feel a bit rushed.

We went on a Tuesday night - not a notoriously lively or busy time of the week, so I would suggest going in the day if you can to avoid the crowds (and bankers). You won't be able to tell the time once you're in as it is held in a basement warehouse, which can also feel a bit claustrophobic, despite the substantial size of the venue.

Overall, a fun activity and cool bar which beats the average and introduces some healthy competition. Go in the day and hopefully have more of the course to yourself, although you'll probably miss out on some of the fun the evening brings.

OVERALL RATING: ***
